Unless you're Evelyn that is! Here's proof positive that she actually understands what the word "No" means, but whether or not she listens is a whole other story... So far I think she thinks we say it for her complete amusement.
Remember how John used to play that head-shaking game with Evelyn? Where he would shake his head while making monkey sounds (for some inexplicable reason), and then Evelyn would shake her head in response. Well, now when John makes even the slightest monkey sound, without any head shaking, Evelyn shakes her head immediately. I wonder if we can get on Letterman's Stupid Human Tricks with that one.
In other "No" developments, Evelyn pretty much shakes her head whenever she hears "no" used in a word or sentence, such as when I say "No more!" after she's done eating. I guess we should probably teach her how to nod and respond to "Yes" too, or she might think the world is just a very negative place...

Hahahaha...that made me laugh right out loud! Rhea also responds to No...but you have to say No no no no no no no...in a singsong voice and she will shake her head. She just thinks its fun though..I don't think there is a connection to the actual word NO.
So cute!! I'm sure that the more dangerous it is the more they want to play with it
She particularly likes playing with the heater and electrical wires. There's a 50 pound bag of rice she's taken to pushing on, trying to tip it back onto herself.
She was on our bed the other day (which is high) and I was "spotting" her from the floor. I figured I would let her crawl off the edge if she wanted to. I would catch her if she did. She crawled straight off the edge, and would've face planted onto the floor if I hadn't caught her. Should I have let her learn a lesson?
She did learn her lesson...she learned that her Papa would be there to catch her when she falls.
Are these rhetorical questions youre asking john? What do you want us to say? Yes, I believe a squashed face is an adequate lesson in boundaries. Why yesterday I taught myself a lesson in bunsen burner avoidment...
Even I think Evelyn's a bit young for bunsen burner lessons Jennifer!
JOHN!!! ??? and take that grin off your face that's there now - I can just imagine it!!! And I'll bet that maybe Evelyn thinks it's a great new game between her and her dad?
After having Rhea here and all of us doing the no no no no head shaking, I can see the joy in Evelyn's face as she responds, too.
